NRA Ad Brings Obama Children Into Gun Debate: The White House Fires Back

NRA-Attacks-Obamas-ChildrenThe National Rifle Association has posted a new video on its website calling President Obama “an elitist hypocrite” for having Secret Service protection on his daughters while dismissing the NRA’s suggestion to put armed guards in schools.

“Are the president’s kids more important than yours? Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?” the narrator asks in the video.

In reading the attached text to the NRA’s video, it would appear that this is merely the first of a series of attack ads planned:

President Obama’s skepticism over NRA’s proposal to put armed security in schools ― when he and his friends already send their children to schools with armed guards ― is just the latest example of elitist hypocrisy.  The NRA plans to Stand and Fight ― will you stand with us? Stay tuned as more videos will be released soon.

The White House fired back on Wednesday stating:  ”Most Americans agree that a president’s children should not be used as pawns in a political fight,” said the president’s press secretary Jay Carney. “But to go so far as to make the safety of the president’s children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly.”

Of course the president’s children need protecting. But when will society stop trying to place the blame on everything but what it should be? Stop blaming the guns, and start blaming the individual. I was in high school when Columbine happened. I also remember it was all Marilyn Manson’s fault, and anyone who wore a trench coat or cargo pants. Dress codes went rampant. Of course though, people will always try to take the easy way out. Oh it wasn’t this person’s fault, he’s crazy. It’s the gun. We have to do something about that gun. No. That is an argument for the stupid. If some over-medicated idiot wakes up one day and decides he’s going to wipe out a theater, if he can’t get a gun, he’ll most definitely find something else. Have you all really forgotten all the pipe bomb scares? Assault rifles are just the beginning. Then it’ll be hand guns because they can be hidden. But even then, it won’t be the psycho’s fault. Noooo. It’ll be the guns. I agree with the universal background checks. I agree with more funding for all psychological areas. But taking away rights from law abiding citizens because criminals are getting their hands on guns is wrong. End of story.
