PressTV reports that “a number of protesters have disrupted an event participated by former US vice president Dick Cheney, calling him a war criminal over the 2003 invasion of Iraq.”

“Dick Cheney — war criminal,” one protester shouted as she held an “Arrest Cheney” in the event held in Washington D.C. on Monday.

“You destroyed Iraq and you’re destroying this country,” the woman continued. “Dick Cheney should be arrested.”

The NY Daily News reported that:

The former vice president, his wife Lynne and their daughter Liz were greeted by dissenters Monday as Politico’s Mike Allen interviewed them before a D.C. crowd.

One woman in pink held up a pair of handcuffs and another woman, in red glasses, held an “Arrest Cheney” sign as she yelled out, “You destroyed Iraq and you’re destroying this country.”

“You said yes to waterboarding and yes to torture,” she continued in her rant, even as security pulled her out of the event.

NBC is reporting that one woman was escorted out of Monday’s Politico playbook lunch in Washington, D.C., which featured the former Vice President.

News outlets are reporting that the anti-war group Code Pink was behind the protest.

PressTV talked to one of its interns, Anastasia Taylor, who told them:

“It was a success because we had so much time where it was focused on us and we actually interrupted the speech. Dick Cheney and his family were cracking jokes at us to try to defuse [the situation] because it was so awkward for them, it was so awkward for everybody.”

Another Code Pink representative added:

“We want to send a clear message to Dick Cheney that we haven’t forgotten his crime of dragging us into a devastating war in Iraq that was built on lies. Our group bird-dogs him and other war criminals. Cheney should not be on a book tour, he should be in jail!”

According to their website,

CODEPINK is a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end U.S. funded wars and occupations, to challenge militarism globally, and to redirect our resources into health care, education, green jobs and other life-affirming activities.

CODEPINK is not exclusively women — we invite men to join us — -but we are particularly eager to see mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters, female workers, students, teachers, healers, artists, writers, singers, poets and all outraged woman rise up and oppose the global militarism.
