Seth Meyers – The Iran prisoner swap proves that Republicans will attack anything and everything that President Obama does.
Republicans have been slamming President Obama for months, claiming that he has not done enough to secure the release of Americans being held by Iran.
As Seth Meyers points out, Ted Cruz had said that it is “… a disgrace for this Administration to abandon Americans.”
Jeb Bush has said that it is “appalling… there’s been no effort to support the Americans held hostage by the Iranian government.” Meyers goes on to explain that “Jeb knows ‘no effort’ because that’s his campaign strategy.”
Turning to the weekend release of American hostages, Meyers pointed out that Republicans began criticizing Obama almost immediate to the news being released.
“Of course, a good day for Obama only lasts seven minutes before Republicans shit all over it,” Meyers said, adding: “Which they did, because Republicans were outraged Obama traded seven Iranian prisoners to get the Americans back.”
Of course, in typical Trump fashion, the billionaire bigot complained about the fact the United States had to give up more prisoners than Iran – and later claimed credit for the release, saying that his public pressure had prompted Obama to take action.
“It’s a terrible deal we should be ashamed of — and not to brag, it was my idea and you should thank me for it,” Meyers said – mocking Trump.
Meyers also addressed Trump’s claim that Obama would never secure the release of those prisoners – a fact he denied over the weekend although there is video showing him making that claim.
Meyers called it “Another contradiction from America’s favorite contra-dickhead.”
