Feds Expect Anarchists To Disrupt National Conventions

Joint Intelligence Bulletin Anarchists National ConventionsThe FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued a joint intelligence bulletin this week, Potential for Violence or Criminal Activity by Anarchist Extremists During the 2012 National Political Conventions, in which they stated they have “high confidence” that extremists are planning to disrupt both the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention.

“The most serious threat to persons and property during the conventions continues to emanate from anarchist extremists willing to use improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) or improvised explosive devices (IEDs)” the agencies wrote.

The bulletin further warned that “anarchist extremists may travel from states outside of Florida and North Carolina to engage in criminal activity during the conventions.”

According to the FBI, they learned in March that anarchists from New York my try to close Tampa area bridges during the GOP Convention.  Police say they are preparing to prevent lawbreaking and taking steps to separate law-abiding protesters from those intent on causing chaos.   “The majority of protesters are coming to get their message out in a peaceful manner and we going to let them do that,” Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Moore told WCNC-TV on Wednesday. “If anyone steps into the criminal area, we know how to respond to that.”
