Standing up to China’s unfair trade

Today in Ohio, President Obama continued to stand up for American auto workers by announcing that his administration is filing a new case with the World Trade Organization (WTO) challenging China’s illegal trade and subsidies of autos and auto parts, which undercuts U.S. manufacturers and encourages U.S. companies to ship jobs overseas. President Obama continues aggressive trade enforcement to stand up and level the playing field for American auto manufacturers, while Mitt Romney would undermine them. Romney’s record and rhetoric shows he has zero credibility in standing up to China or for American workers.

New trade case: The Obama administration will file a new WTO case, following up on one filed in July 2012, challenging China’s subsidies to Chinese-made auto parts exports.  It is also requesting a separate, but related investigation with the International Trade Commission on China’s unfair treatment of American-made auto parts imports.

  • Please see today’s Cleveland Plain Dealer article outlining how the President is fighting against China’s efforts to undercut American auto-part makers.

President Obama continues to challenge China’s unfair trade practices. China has imposed more than $3 billion in unfair duties on more than 80 percent of our auto exports to China, making the vehicles made across America more expensive in markets overseas. Such unfair trade practices could undermine the resurgent American auto industry that’s seeing record sales, production and jobs because President Obama rescued it and saved more than one million jobs up and down the supply chain.
