Major Election Day Voting Problems In 2 Swing States

As of early afternoon today, the Election Protection Coalition, which runs the 1-866-Our-Vote hotline had already received over 50,000 calls.  Back in 2008 the hotline received only 100,000 totals, so it is expected the number this year will end up being substantially higher.

Of particular concern are problems associated with two key swing-states:  Pennsylvania and Ohio.

In spite of the fact Pennsylvania voters are not required to show photo ID to cast a ballot, poll workers are allowed by law to ask voters for ID (for some strange reason) and according to the co-director of Election Protection, Eric Marshall,  minority voters are being singled out in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. “Poll workers are asking black voters for ID but not white voters,” Marshall reported.

Of even graver concern, in the Ohio cities of Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, voting machines are not working due to alleged problems wit the optical scan voting machines.  These cities have particularly high levels of Democratic voters and Pres. Obama needs a high voter turnout in order to win the state.

According to the Election Protection Coalition, these problems are being worked out, but we are not holding our breaths as it seems Republicans are determined to do whatever it takes to win.
