Women turned out to be big winners during the election with the defeat of misogynist candidates such as Todd Akin, Richard Mourdoch, Roger Rivard, John Koster and Joe Walsh.
All pro-life and anti-woman, these candidates made bizarre controversial remarks about women and rape at one point during their campaigns.
As a result, Republican Joe Walsh was soundly defeated by a margin of about ten points by Tammy Duckworth in Illinois’ 8th congressional district.
Walsh was asked whether a woman should be allowed to have an abortion if her life was at risk and answered: “There is no such exception. With modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance. Outside of the very rare circumstances such as ectopic pregnancies, and other rare health issues, the research is pretty clear that with the advances in modern medicine, an invasive and traumatic procedure like an abortion is not necessary to save the life of a mother.”
Credo Action PAC included Rep. Walsh as one of its list of the TEA PARTY TEN: UNFIT TO SERVE calling Walsh “America’s Most Offensive Congressman”.
This self-proclaimed “crazy Tea Party freshman” has earned a 100% lifetime rating from the Koch Brothers’ American’s for Prosperity. He came to Washington “ready to go to war” and “to scream from the mountaintop.” He has attacked African Americans, Jews, and Muslims and even famously screamed at his own constituents: “Don’t blame the banks! And don’t blame the marketplace for the mess we’re in right now! I’m tired of hearing this crap! This pisses me off!” Walsh is so out of touch with the reality of women’s health care that he defended a Congressional hearing on birth control regulations where the only allowed witnesses were men by saying, “This is not about women.” His staunch anti-choice and anti-health care positions even extend to his own family: Walsh turned down federal health insurance despite his wife’s pre-existing condition, and he spent years in court fighting against his wife who was suing him for delinquent child support payments. He also wants to abolish the Department of Education. Even Republicans consider this guy “toxic.”
Earlier this year we ran a collection of 5 videos with one of the most insane of the Tea Party freshmen class of 2010 – Representative William Joseph “Joe” Walsh, the Republican U.S. Representative for Illinois’ northwest suburban 8th congressional district.
In the first video you see him flipping out and yelling at constituents during a town hall meeting in Gurnee, Illinois. In the second he gets taken down by Chris Matthews over the debt ceiling crisis and the complete lack of a Republican plan. In the next one Marin Bashir confronts Walsh for calling President Obama a liar, an idiot, saying he was elected because he was black & skipping the President’s speech on jobs.
In the 4th video Walsh and CNN Anchor Ashleigh Banfield get into a screaming match over his comments about war hero Tammy Duckworth.
In the last video Lawrence O’Donnell takes down Rep. Joe Walsh for his hypocrisy on fiscal responsibility for being sued for $117,437 — 9 years worth in unpaid child support.
