NBC’s David Gregory is under investigation by the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for displaying what he described as a 30 round mazazine during an interview of NRA Chief Wayne LaPierre during last Sunday’s episode of “Meet the Press.”
It is illegal in the District of Columbia to possess a large capacity ammunition device, such as a magazine, if the device has a capacity greater than 10 rounds of ammunition. The law also specifies that it does not matter whether the device is attached to a firearm or not.
At this time, it remains unknown whether Gregory was holding an authentic magazine or a prop, although CNN has reported that “Meet the Press” did consult with the D.C. Police Dept. prior to airing the show and had been advised that they could not use such as device as they are illegal in the city limits – which is where “Meet the Press” is usually aired.
Gregory was using the magazine while questioning LaPierre about increased gun-control laws.
“So here’s a magazine for ammunition that carries 30 bullets,” Gregory said, holding up what he said was a magazine. “Now isn’t it possible that if we got rid of these, if we replaced them and said well, you can only have a magazine that carries five bullets or ten bullets, isn’t it just possible that we could reduce the carnage in a situation like Newtown?”
“I don’t believe that’s going to make one difference,” LaPierre told Gregory.
