Frustrated by the impending fiscal cliff and the continuing silence of the GOP leadership, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) indicated today that he did not think there was enough time to avoid automatic spending cuts and tax increases unless House Republicans approved a Senate bill that would preserve existing tax rates on income under $250,000.
However, he went on to express pessimism at this prospect stating: “Everyone knows that if they [the House] had brought up the Senate-passed bill, it would pass overwhelmingly. But the speaker says, no we can’t do that.” He went on to add that the House of Representatives is “being operated by a dictatorship of the speaker.”
