The Great Irony in the NRA Response to the Newtown Shooting

America is out of excusesHas anyone stopped to consider the great irony to the NRA’s response today to the Newport shooting?

Try this on for a second:

One of the primary arguments floating around today among gun enthusiasts to justify the ever increasing number of firearms by private citizens is that they need to “bear arms “to fend off “governmental tyranny.” [And set aside for a moment the fact that there is no way their pea-shooters are going to delay their inevitable ass-whooping for more than a millisecond when confronted with the full weight of the United States military industrial machine!]

Indeed, every single person I know who advocates gun rights argues that the Second Amendment was created to fight against governmental tyranny.

So, how in the hell is increasing the number of firearms wielded by representatives of the government — in the form of heavily armed police officers in schools — going to accomplish anything but increase the likelihood of governmental tyranny?

If these fruit loopy gun lovers really advocate freedom from government tyranny supported by firearms – shouldn’t they be crying out for less firearms for police?

The Army?

Navy?

Air Force?

Marines?

The National Guard?

State Police?

Teachers?

Principals?
