In an ironic exploitation of feminism, the Germany lingerie company Blush released a new ad on the one year anniversary of the release of “Punk Prayer” by the Russian punk band Pussy Riot.
Here is the press note accompanying the video:
On the first anniversary of the Pussy Riot concert in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Berlin based Lingerie label blush supports the free pussy riot movement with a sexy protest march through icy Moscow (-15° C). Support Freepussyriot.org!
Pussy Riot, a feminist collective group performed musical protests all over Russia against Vladimir Putin which ultimately resulted in two members, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, being sentenced to two years imprisonment for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.”
The irony to this story is that Pussy Riot was using women’s bodies as weapons of protest, while Blush is trying to exploit the situation by using a woman’s body to sell sexy underwear.
What do you think? Is this appropriate or shameful?
