Gunman Shot Multiple Times Inside Utah Police Station (VIDEO)

Shootout at Utah Police StationWest Valley City, Utah, police are reporting that an armed man was shot inside the police department  this morning.

The suspect, now identified as 39-year-0ld James Ramsey Kammeyer walked into the police station at about 8:20 this morning according to police representative Sgt. Jason Hauer at a press conference later this morning.

Kammeyer walked into the police station, located in a Salt Lake City suburb, fidgeting with his hands in his pockets and asked the police officer working the desk behind protective glass to leave that secure area and enter the lobby to speak with him.

Noting that Kammeyer was behaving “abnormally” the officer, instead, requested Kammeyer remove his hands from his pockets.

At this point, Kammeyer briefly turned his back and removed a handgun from one of his pockets and pointed it at the officer.  A call was sent out requesting assistance and other officers entered the lobby.  Ultimately, one of those officers “engaged the suspect with multiple rounds.”

As reported by local news station KSL.com, the police have had a prior encounter with Kammeyer before during which he expressed a desire to commit “suicide by cop.”

In December of 2012, police responded when Kammeyer  threatened suicide with a knife and apparently cut his writs. Kammeyer said he wanted to die from suicide by cop, Hauer said.

According to Hauer, the man said he wanted to die because he was a registered sex offender and his wife was taking his kids away from him.
