Neil Heslin, Carlee Soto and Erica Lafferty, three family members of Newtown victims, appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation this weekend and said they won’t give up on gun control despite the Senate’s vote last week.
Erica Lafferty, daughter of one of the Netwown, Mass., shooting victims, said that she was “honestly disgusted” by the senators who voted against the bipartisan background check amendment and went on to say that the “nay” vote was “grossly unfair to the family members of Newtown as well as all other gun violence victims.”
Neil Heslin, whose son Jesse Lewis was killed, said that “I don’t think they [the Senate] did justice for all the victims of Newtown,” and went on to note that “It’s a political game, there was nothing bipartisan about it at all,” he said.
Carlee Soto’s sister Vicki was a teacher at Sandy Hook and is remember for protecting her students, pushing them out of sight and telling the gunman they were somewhere on the other side of the building, chastised lawmakers for not doing enough to prevent future shootings.
“My sister wasn’t a coward. She protected her kids. Why aren’t they [the Senate] protecting us?” Carlee said.
Lafferty added, “My mom was not scared in the halls of Sandy Hook; they should not be scared to cast a vote to protect millions of innocent people.”
