In an interview with MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts, former NAACP Chairman Julian Bond shared his thoughts on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) probe into the NAACP in 2004, and the current IRS targeting of conservative groups that have such keywords as “Tea Party” and “Patriot”. Bond told Roberts that the NAACP’s targeting and the Tea Party’s are not parallel circumstances.
Bond went on to criticize the Tea Party stating:
“I mean, here are a group of people who are admittedly racist, who are overtly political, who tried as best they can to harm President Obama in every way they can.”
When asked by Roberts if this scandal might give a boost to the Tea Party Bond added
“I hope not. I hope they don’t get anymore air. They are the Taliban wing of American politics. We all ought to be a little worried about them.”
