Democratic Texas state senator Wendy Davis took over the statehouse floor for a successful marathon filibuster of an abortion-related bill that began Tuesday morning and ended 13 hours later, causing the vote on the bill to miss the deadline. NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell reports.
Although her filibuster fell short of the full 13 hours necessary, debate over parliamentary rules and procedures as well as disruptions from spectators was enough to delay the vote until after midnight. Of particular note, the official Texas Legislature Online initially reported the bill passed on 06-26-2013 (after midnight) and a few minutes later it was changed to 06-25-2013.
