Thousands Rally for Trayvon Martin

Trayvon’s parents joined celebrities in rallies held in 101 cities across the country turned out Saturday at “Justice for Trayvon” vigils in a show of solidarity with the slain teen’s family.

The rallies were held throughout America to protest a Florida jury’s decision last week to find neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman not guilty of shooting dead unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton helped lead the Saturday rally along with Sharpton just outside police headquarters in New York. Fulton told the crowd that she was bound and determined to fight for change to insure that black youths are no longer viewed as threats by society and the law merely because of the color of their skin, telling the crowd:

“I promise you I’m going to work for your children as well. Today it was my son. Tomorrow it might be yours.”

Al Sharpton spoke out against the “Stand Your Ground” laws which laid the foundation for the Zimmerman acquittal:

“We are trying to change these laws so that this never, ever happens again.”

Trayvon Martin’s father lead the demonstration in Miami where a crowd gathered around him singing the civil rights protest song “We Shall Overcome”.
