Oprah Winfrey delivered the following remarks at the “Let Freedom Ring” ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington on Aug. 28, 2013 at the Lincoln Memorial.

I am absolutely thrilled to be here I remember when I was nine years old in the march was occurring and I asked my mama and I go to the lives. To be fifty years but I’m here.
On Tuesday and this place at this time in fifty years ago today. Dr. Martin Luther King shared his dream for America.
With America. Doctor King was the passionate voice that awakened the conscience of the nation. And inspired people all over the world.
The power learn of his — — — because. They were spoken out of an unwavering belief in freedom and justice equality. An opportunity for all.
Let freedom — was doctor king’s closing call. For a better care and more just. America.
So today. People from all walks of lights. Will gather at 3.
PM. — bell ringing events across our great country. And around the world.
As we reaffirmed. Our commitment to doctor king’s ideals. Doctor King believed that our destinies are all — — and he knew that our holds.
An — James — really all those saying. He challenged us to see how — we all are more alike. Then we are different.
So as the balance of freedom ring did — We’re hoping that it’s — time for all of us to reflect on not only the progress. That has been made to. And we made a lot.
But on what we have accomplished. And also on the work that still remains before us it’s an opportunity today. To recall where we once — are in this nation.
And to think about that young man with 34 years old stood up here. And was able to force an entire country to wake up. To look at itself.
And to eventually change. And as we the people. Continue to honor of their dream of a man.
And a movement. A man — in his short — — suffering and injustice. And refuses to look the other way.
We can be inspired. And — you can be courageous by continuing. To walk in the footsteps.
Of the past that he forged. He’s the one who reminded us that we. Will never walk alone.
He was after all a drum major for justice so as the — told today. Let us reflect on the bravery. Let us reflect on — sacrifice.
A Boston stood up for free don’t who stood up for us whose shoulders we now stand down. And the bells — today at three. Let — ask ourselves.
How. Will be — green live on in me. And you in all of us — — told let us remind ourselves.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. As the bounced all we could — to a life of service. Because Doctor King one of my favorite quotes — is not antibiotic can be famous.
But they everybody can be great because greatness is determined by some — — So we ask ourselves what are we doing for others to lift others up and does the bells — we must recommit. To — the love that — eggs and — next each of us. To shine through and let’s.
