96-Year-Old Man Writes Heartbreaking Song For His Late Wife (VIDEO)

96-Year-Old Man Writes Heartbreaking Song For His Late Wife96-year-old Fred Stobaugh lost his wife of 72 years, Lorraine, in May of this year.

Fred isn’t a writer; he isn’t a musician, but a few weeks later the lyrics to a song came to him:

“I was sitting here one night, oh about six weeks after she passed away and just sat here kind of hummin’ a little bit and it just finally came to me.”

He later mailed the lyrics to “Sweet Lorraine” to Green Shoe Studio’s singer-songwriter contest.  It was a contest where songwriters could upload a video to YouTube and send them a link.  However, they didn’t expect an entry quite like Fred’s.

“How did I meet Lorraine?” he wrote.

“She was a car-hop at the A &W Root Beer stand in Astoria and she brought the trays to the car. And that was in about 1938. We dated for two years and then we married. June 26th would have been our 73rd anniversary. She gave me 75 years of her life.”

Lorraine StobaughGreen Shoe Studio was so moved by Stobaugh’s story that they created a short documentary entitled, A Letter From Fred, “a poignant and beautiful story of life, love, music, and the special place where all three come together.”

“Oh Sweet Lorraine” is currently available on iTunes and Google Play and you can find Fred on Facebook for more information.
