Anthony Weiner and Sean Hannity got into a heated brawl Wednesday night while discussing the scandal surrounding Weiner, the shutdown and the debt ceiling.
The two starting arguing from the beginning of the interview after Hannity asked Weiner whether he learned anything from his big scandal.
They then moved onto the debt ceiling with Weiner accusing House Republicans of “playing a game of stand-off with the economy.”
Things started to heat up after Weiner asked Hannity whether he thought the debt ceiling should be raised
On the debt ceiling, Weiner admitted that some Democrats have played politics with it in the past, but the Republicans in Congress now are “not only playing a game of politics, but playing a game of stand-off with the economy.”
The two went on to get into a heated exchange as Weiner began questioning Hannity over raising the debt ceiling:
WEINER: Maybe you can explaing this to me. Boehner thinks we should raise the debt limit, which he says. The President thinks it. Hannity and Weiner both think it; why can’t they do it?
HANNITY: I’m not so sure if Hannity actually believes. I’ll tell you what. If we –
WEINER: Well Hannity’s bosses believe it. People who care about the stock price of this company believe, people who have 401Ks believe.
HANNITY: I don’t know what my bosses believe. I haven’t asked them about it. But I’ll tell you this: I speak for myself on this program, alright? And I would only tell you that I’m really afraid if we have 90 trillion dollars in unfunded liability and we have 17 trillion in debt and Obama will double it by the end of his second term, from what every other president before him –
WEINER: The debt ceiling had been run up already. It’s only when – It’s like you have a credit card and you say “I don’t like the things I bought and I don’t want to pay for it.”
HANNITY: I understand, but you’re missing my point. The point is I’m worried. You have young kids; I have young kids –
WEINER: You don’t want to raise the debt limit? Is that your position?
HANNITY: If you listen and let me finish.
WEINER: No, it’s a simply question. It’s a simple question.
HANNITY: I’m the host – you’re the guest.
WEINER: I get to do questions. What am I a potted plant? I get to do questions.
Later in the interview, Hannity attacked Weiner telling him:
“You’re auditioning for MSNBC! You’re auditioning. You want Chris Matthews’ job, I can tell!
[…]
You never shut up like Chris Matthews either!”
Weiner shot back, “Why do you always have patsies on?” adding that “Fox apparently has much lower standards” than MSNBC.
Hannity replied, “You want to talk about low standards? You really want to go there?”
