McFail: McDonald’s Holiday Advice – Use Stale Bread, Return Purchases

The labor advocacy group Low Pay Is Not OK is targeting McDonald’s for their online employee website, McResource, which advises employees to “consider returning unopened purchases” or to try “Selling some of your unwanted possessions” to pay off holiday debt.

A screenshot if the McResource Line website published by Low Pay Is Not OK reads:

“You may want to consider returning some of your unopened purchases that may not seem as appealing as they did. Selling some of your unwanted possessions on eBay or Craigslist could bring in some quick cash. Consider bringing a brown bag lunch and skipping the takeout …. You might also consider a temporary part time job to dig out of debt quickly.”

Other pages go on to advise McDonald’s employees to “quit complaining” to lower stress that “Singing along to your favorite songs can lower blood pressure.”

Sing away stress

McResource offers the following advise to save money on groceries:

Break it up

NBC is reporting that that particular article “appeared to have been removed from the site by midday Thursday,” adding:

McDonald’s did not return multiple calls for comment. A company spokeswoman, in a statement emailed to CNBC, said Low Pay Is Not OK’s video about the website took the advice out of context and characterized the campaign as “an attempt by an outside organization to undermine a well-intended employee assistance resource website.”

The Low Pay Is Not Okay website prefaces the video, below, on their website with the following text:

McDonald’s really told their employees to “quit complaining”

McDonald’s knows that they don’t pay their employees enough to make ends meet – and they want to “help.” But instead of paying us enough to get by, they made a McRescources website that’s chock full of CLUELESS (and offensive!) tips.

Check it out. And spread the word about just how out of touch they truly are after you have.
