Actor Matthew Perry debates drug addiction and drug courts with Peter Hitchens and Baroness Meacher on the BBC’s Newsnight program Monday night.
The three were debating the specialist courts, “in which former addicts sit as lay magistrates dealing with abuse-related crimes,” according to The Guardian.
Perry argued in favor of the courts saying: “I know that they work. People that go through drug court have a 55% less chance of ever seeing handcuffs ever again.”
Hitchens, a well-known British newspaper columnist and anti-drug campaigner, spoke out against what he described as “the fantasy of addiction,” with Perry responding:
“You are making a point that is as ludicrous as saying Peter Pan is real.”
