In an effort to bolster the illusion of being “Fair and Balanced,” Fox News has enlisted the aid of several faux liberals over the years.
The idea is to put these fake liberals on the air and to present them as a left-leaning voice on Fox and then show them conceding points to their obviously superior conservative counterparts.
There is Bob Beckel is supposed to serve as foil to four conservative co-hosts on Fox News Five. But bear in mind that as a so-called liberal Beckel has called for the assassination of Julian Assange, for arming school children and other ludicrous claims.
Hannity & Colmes faux liberal co-host Alan Colmes was well-known for conceding points to Sean Hannity and other conservatives. Of course, he was hand-picked by Hannity to play his muse. Susan Estrich, the former campaign manager Michael Dukakis’ 1988 presidential bid, was another of Fox’s mild-mannered liberals. There was former United States Sen. Zell Miller (D.-GA) who once stated: “I wish we lived in the day where you could challenge a person to a duel,” in response to a question from Chris Matthews about his misrepresentations regarding John Kerry’s military record.
The list goes on and on…
Now we have Fox News’ latest slight of hand in the form of their new show Outnumbered which pits four leggy c0-hosts against a lone male.
Outnumbered presents itself as “Featuring an ensemble of four female panelists and one rotating male, we’ll tackle top headlines from all angles and perspectives!” but as Allysa Rosenberg reported for the Washington Post in late April:
“When Fox News announced this month that it would debut “Outnumbered” […] I declared it a work of evil genius. What better way to simultaneously parody feminism and let a bunch of conservative women make themselves look eminently reasonable than by sending them up against a lone man prepared to say utterly ridiculous things?”
And that’s exactly what happened with their first guest, #One LuckyGuy Tucker Carlson who renewed his support for a middle-school teacher who was charged for giving a four minute lap dance to a 15-year-0ld student – a dance that included fondling. Tucker went on to state that for boys, sexual harassment is “the greatest thing that ever happened,” but for girls “traumatic.” [see: FOX Mocks Sexual Harassment: ‘Greatest Thing That Ever Happened’ For Boys, ‘Traumatic’ For Girls]
As Generation Progress reports, “What’s incredibly troubling about this exchange is that it came the day before the White House released a major report on how to address sexual assault on college campuses. Yet, Fox News literally devoted zero minutes to covering the major new nationwide initiative on April 29, when the White House hosted a large event with Vice President Joe Biden and unveiled the website NotAlone.gov as part of the initiative.”
Gen Progress concludes, noting:
Carlson’s unpleasant commentary is just one example of how “Outnumbered” is promoting misogynistic viewpoints.
In Carlson’s episode, a conversation on female politicians devolved into discussion about their physical looks. Another segment on Happy Meal toys resulted in the argument that “girls like pretty ponies, and boys like toy trucks,” with one host calling herself “odd” for not wanting to play with Barbies as a child.
With any luck, Fox News will find itself OUTNUMBERED by intelligent sensitive Americans who are not so quick to be pulled by their latest hat-trick.
You can watch a mind-numbing clip from the first episode about “The Best Way To Get That Annoying Guy To Stop Hitting On You.”
