Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg told Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric on Wednesday that she believes the male Supreme Court justices who voted against her in the Hobby Lobby case have a “blind spot” when it comes to women.
Couric asked Ginsburg whether she “believed the five male justices truly understood the ramifications of their decision” in Hobby Lobby, and following a lengthy pause, Ginsburg replied. “I would have to say ‘no,'” adding:
“But, justices continue to think, and can change. So I’m ever hopeful that if the Court has a blind spot today, its eyes can be opened tomorrow.”
This was followed up by the following exchange:
COURIC: “But you do, in fact, feel that these five justices had a bit of a ‘blind spot’?”
GINSBURG: “In Hobby Lobby? Yes.”
COURIC: “Because they couldn’t understand what it is like to be a woman?”
GINSBURG: “They all have wives. They have daughters. By the way, I think daughters can change the perception of their fathers.”
