NBC Philadelphia reports that New Jersey lawmakers who are investigating the scandal surrounding the George Washington Bridge lane closures have subpoenaed the phone records of Regaina Agea, a top aid to Gov. Chris Christie.
The network reports that “Lawmakers are requesting a month of data, including text messages, sent or received by Regina Egea. She testified in July that she texted the governor her thoughts about December testimony on the bridge probe but later deleted the messages.”
Christie said he does not remember receiving the messages.
The North Jersey Record adds that:
The latest demand for records, issued on Monday, was sent to the telecommunications company AT&T, requesting a month of phone data — including text messages — sent or received by a Christie staffer who previously testified that she had erased a communication sent to the governor at a crucial time during the unfolding scandal.
Committee co-chairman Assemblyman John Wisniewski said that We have been guided by our counsel who advised us this was an appropriate way to seek information.”
It remains unclear at this point whether AT&T will turn over those records without a search warrant.
