A North Carolina bartender had an incredible workday after receiving a $1000 tip on a $14.01 bar tab from a customer who walked into the Wake Forest cafe where she works.
According to WTVD-TV, Chrisi Kemp, 37, “couldn’t believe the generous tip but says she definitely needed the extra money.” She had been dealing with a mounting stack of medical bills for her 5-year-old daughter, who had been sick for several months because of an unusual allergy and her washing machine had broken down earlier that day.
Kemp told ABC11 that she had a breakdown right before coming into work at the One Whirled Cafe last Thursday but that later that same day she received the tip from a customer who wanted to remain anonymous.
“I was a little taken back. I went and got the owners immediately because I didn’t know what to do,” Kemp told ABC11, adding “It was just a crazy situation to think that somebody has that much generosity in their heart.”
The owner of the restaurant and Kemp both confirmed with the customer that he had intended to leave such a large tip. ABC11 reported that he told them he believed in “good” karma and thought Kemp was due for some.
“We were thrilled for her,” chef owner Chris Ortlepp told ABC News . “There was obviously a little disbelief, but at the same time we were happy it happened.”
