Hey Michele Bachmann: Americans Are Tired Of War

Warhawks

Michele Bachmann is pushing for an escalation in military action in the Middle East arguing that President Obama needs to go to war to avoid America being drawn into WWIII.

In a Fox News interview this morning, Bachmann argued President Obama is leading America to the brink of a third world war by not entering into a smaller war against jihad.

Bachmann told interviewer Bill Hemmer that she agreed with Bill O’Reilly who stated last night that Obama has a “passive approach” to combating jihad, adding that she considered Obama’s current military efforts against ISIS to be “kabuki theater rather than war,” arguing that Obama doesn’t want to fight a war.

It’s almost as though he thinks war is obsolete and war is passé in the 21st century. He sees this as a law enforcement effort akin to breaking and entering. That isn’t what it is. This is not only embarrassing, this is tragic with tragic consequences. This could be laying the groundwork for the beginnings of a World War III.

And while I do get her point that in order to avoid WWIII, we should fight a smaller war against jihad – I see some fatal flaws with her reasoning.

For one thing it is impossible to wage war against a belief system such as jihad. George W. Bush already tried that with his “war on terrorism,” which led to the death of tens of thousands of Americans, untold numbers of innocent women and children, and billions upon billions of dollars. And let’s face it, Americans are tired of “The War on Drugs,” “The War on Terrorism,” and all our other failed “WARS.”

I cannot help but wonder at times that what these war-hawks are really saying is “let’s bomb the Middle East into the sixth century and not let up until all the brown [or less than white] people who are sitting atop oil are all dead.” Or maybe what they are saying is “hey, I’ve got stock in Halliburton and Blackwater and I need another war.”

If Michele Bachmann has her way, the U.S. will finds itself in another protracted war with no obvious goals or exit strategy – that is if you exclude the aim of creating billions in profits for Halliburton, Blackwater and other war-profiteers.

So what gives Michele? Looking for a job with Dick Cheney over at Halliburton? Looking for a little action at Blackwater?
