A moment from last Friday’s Garth Brooks concert in Minneapolis went viral after the singer stopped mid-performance to honor a fan whose sign caught his attention.
The sign, held up by Teresa Shaw, read: “Chemo this morning, Garth tonight. Enjoy the dance.”
Shortly thereafter an usher came and directed Shaw to the front of the stage where Brooks sang his hit song The Dance to her, finishing by giving her his guitar and a kiss on the forehead.
Garth then held up her sign and announced: “God just stuck his hand out! You have all my strength, you have everybody’s strength in here, and you go kick cancer’s ass!”
After the show, Brooks talked about Shaw and how it brought new perspective to him.
11 Alive reports that Shaw has been fighting stage three breast cancer since June.
“I found my breast cancer on a self-exam. It didn’t show up on a mammogram, and it was over two inches,” she said
Shaw and her 19-year-old daughter Elizabeth traveled to Target Center Friday for a much needed treat from treatment.
They made the sign in their hotel room with glitter covering the floor in the process.
“I was just hoping he would see it and maybe if I could get him to get it signed,” said Shaw.
