Low visibility due to blowing snow resulted in at least one person being killed and 10 injured in a pileup involving more than 150 vehicles in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-94 near Battle Creek Michigan.
Michigan State Police Lt. Rick Pazder told NBC News that Interstate 94 has been shut down since 10 a.m. and is expected to be closed for at least 12 hours and the Michigan Dept. of Transportation is reporting on their Twitter page that it is expected to be closed well into the night or the early hours of the morning.

According to Pazder, a semi-truck carrying fireworks burst into flames and a nearby truck carrying Formic acid ignited. As a result, traffic and residents are being asked to evacuate the area by HAZMAT officials.
As NBC News reports, “formic acid can cause throat burns, coughing and nausea if inhaled according to the Centers for Disease Control. “
A semi-truck driver was killed in the crash, but is not yet being identified, Pazder said. Ten more people were injured and brought to area hospitals, while more people who were less seriously injured were brought to the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Battle Creek, Pazder said. People involved in the crash who were not injured were being bused to Galesburg-Augusta Primary School.
