2016 presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is at it again – this time comparing gay marriage lies to those of Nazi Germany.
Right Wing Watch reports that Huckabee hosted an event in Little Rock, Arkansas, called “America From Ordinary To Extraordinary.” During a speech at the event, he warned about the dangers facing the U.S., including gay rights” and at one point he went so far as to compare the the German Nazi movement to legal battles over the rights of the LGBT community in the United States.
Huckabee noted that while groups like ISIS operate in the open, “at least the Nazis tried to hide what they were doing at Auschwitz and Birkenau.”
“You have to lie to people, and when lies permeate our culture, it’s a dangerous, dangerous thing,” he stated, adding that just as Nazi Germany pushed lies on a massive scale, American culture has been inundated with “lies” about the definition of marriage.
To illustrate his point, Huckabee referred to Elane’s Photography – a business that shut down after their refusal to provide service to a gay customer:
We’re abandoning the basic concept of free speech and liberty. You have to lie to people, and when lies permeate our culture, it’s a dangerous, dangerous thing. If you are a believer and you believe old-fashioned things like the definition of life and the definition of marriage, it’s possible that the government will put you out of business as they have in numerous occasions like Elane’s Photography. Out of business.
In their report on Huckabee’s comments, The New Civil Rights Movement added that “When Huckabee went to Germany in November, he told a group of pastors that same-sex marriage will destroy the foundation of civilization. So much for confining his opposition to same-sex marriage as just bible-based.”
