Donald Trump’s campaign record is one rife with bigotry and ignorance with a healthy dose of misogyny tossed in…..
In an attempt to unravel the mystery of why any woman might support the Republican front-runner’s campaign, Women in the World hit the streets to find out what women think about Trump in his hometown.
As Women in the World reported in The New York Times:
Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign is one for the books. The New York City real estate tycoon has dominated headlines because of his sexist rhetoric and over-the-top insults. But despite the controversy, his poll numbers continue to climb, leaving many to wonder if Trump can’t be trumped. To get a clearer picture of his popularity among women, we hit the streets in his own backyard to see if voters were swayed by the Republican billionaire.
The video begins with women being asked to describe Donald Trump using one word. Responses included: “fool,” “sinner,” “hypocrite,” “ignorant,” “extreme.”
The clip goes on to note that “some needed two words…” Fabulous mess,” “rude racist,” and “bigoted idiot” were the responses.
However, as Women in the World show, “they didn’t stop there.”
- He judges by the outside appearance.
- He sexualizes his daughter which is very strange.
- He degrades women; he degrades everyone.
- He’s offended me in so many ways and I don’t even know him personally.
- My family is Dominican, so I’m the only person who was born here and I can imagine if he were to become president.
Asked if they would vote for Trump, several responded “absolutely not,” with one saying “hell no. I would move to Canada or Mexico. He could build the wall behind me.” Another spoke directly to Trump saying: “Who’s gonna vote for you, and if they do – I feel bad for this country.”
For those unfamiliar with the group, Women in the World is a “digital platform that features activists, artists, CEOs, peacemakers, entrepreneurs, and firebrand dissidents. They’ve saved and enriched lives and shattered glass ceilings in every sector.” Spearheaded by Tina Brown, the British-born former editor in chief of Tatler, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Talk, Newsweek and The Daily Beast and author of The Diana Chronicles, the platform is in collaboration with the New York Times and is hosted on their website.
Women of the World also hosts an annual summit, convening women leaders, activists and political change-makers from around the world to share their stories, and offer solutions to building a better life for women and girls. Former ABC news producer Kyle Gibson is senior executive producer and managing editor of the event.
