The Bernie Sanders campaign published a lengthy list of celebrities, artists and cultural leaders who are endorsing the Democratic presidential hopeful.
The list was accompanied by a letter, endorsed by the signatories:
We — the undersigned artists, musicians, and cultural leaders of America — are excited to endorse a new vision for our country.
It’s a vision that pushes for a progressive economic agenda.
It’s a vision that creates jobs, raises wages, protects the environment, and gets big money out of politics.
We endorse Bernie Sanders to become the 2016 Democratic Nominee for President of the United States of America.
Sincerely,
ARTISTS and CULTURAL LEADERS for BERNIE SANDERS
The list of backers included several familiar names such as physician and activist Patch Adam who was the subject of a blockbuster movie starring Robin Williams.
Among the actors were Danny DeVito, Juliette Lewis, Justin Long, Mark Ruffalo, Susan Sarandon, George Wendt as well as comedians Margaret Cho, Will Ferrell and Sarah Silverman.
Shepard Fairey, best known for his “Hope” poster that helped propel Obama’s 2008 campaign was among the many artists on the list, including Ron English, Shephard Fairey, and designer Aaron Draplin.
Musicians included Elvin Bishop, Jackson Browne, Belinda Carlisle, David Crosby, Flea, Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt and blues legend Duke Robillard.
Despite Sander’s charisma and appeal to Democrats impressed by his remarkable record of consistency spanning decades, much of the media has ignored his campaign.
However, recent polling shows Sanders leading Clinton in New Hampshire and he has surged ahead of Hillary Clinton in Iowa according to a poll released last week.
