A tense battle to defund Planned Parenthood is being waged in Congress in the wake of the release of highly edited videos by the conservative pro-life group The Center for American Progress (CMP).
David Daleiden, the founder of CMP, alleged the videos provide evidence of a “criminal conspiracy to make money off of aborted baby parts reach[ing] to the very highest levels of [the] organization.”[133] Planned Parenthood condemned these as false accusations, stating that all donations are made “with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards,” and “there is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or for Planned Parenthood.”
The New England Journal Of Medicine thoroughly debunked those allegations by CMP as false earlier this month and a congressional appointed investigation by an private research company concluded that there was “’manipulation’ of the videos by abortion opponents make those recordings unreliable for any official inquiry.” However, that has not stopped congressional Republicans from waging war against Planned Parenthood, even going so far as to threaten a government shutdown next week over the matter.
Although an earlier effort to defund Planned Parenthood failed in the Senate, on September 18, 2015 the House of Representatives passed legislation to defund Planned Parenthood, but on September 24, 2015 the Senate blocked the plan again. Several different states have blocked contracts and funding for Planned Parenthood in the wake of the controversy, often times in violation of federal law and on Friday, House Republicans announced the creation of a select committee to investigate the controversial Planned Parenthood videos, according to Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
One woman, Ambarie Stacey Schiefer, has taken to Facebook to send a message to Republicans who would like to see Planned Parenthood shut down – and you are going to want to give her a round of applause when you check it out.

November 7th 2013. At the age of 23, I had surgery to remove part of my cervix to avoid my abnormal cells becoming cancerous. The middle finger I proudly hold high here was a preemptive “fuck you” to any and all who want to make it damn near impossible for someone such as myself, without insurance, to find out that I needed such a surgery and then make it possible for me to get that very important surgery. Without Planned Parenthood, I don’t even know where I would be now. I thank them, and thank everyone who supports and believes in them. Thank you. #IStandWithPP #MageeWomensHospital
