Republican presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson drew gasps from the audience and glares from the hosts of ABC’s “The View” for his anti-abortion views.
The famed neurosurgeon spoke out against the procedure Tuesday, saying that “we’re killing babies all over the place.”
Speaking of his past surgical procedures on premature babies still inside the womb, Carson explained that: ‘in my case, I spent my entire career trying to preserve life and give people quality of life,” adding “there is no way you’re going to convince me that they’re not important, that they’re just a mass of cells.”
Carson went on to discuss he belief that the private sector needed to focus on providing better daycare services so mothers could get the GEDs and finish up their education.
Goldberg countered” you’re assuming that these are mothers who aren’t educated.”
Carson responded affirmatively – to the gasps of the audience – saying that most of them fit that description:
“A lot of those young girls who are having babies out of wedlock — when they have that first baby, they stop their education and that child is four times as likely to grow up in poverty,” Carson explained, adding: “We, as a society, have an obligation to do what’s necessary to stop that cycle.”
Her patience with the situation wearing thin, Joy Behar stepped in at that point, raising the issue of the recent Republican-led attacks on Planned Parenthood:
“So, how important is birth control then to the Republican Party?” she asked, adding “They should be out there applauding Planned Parenthood for supplying birth control, mammograms and everything else.”
