Ben Carson – He flips, he flops – his campaign tries to rescue him claiming he was confused.
Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson’s campaign announced that he was “thinking something differently” hours after he told reporters on camera that he, too, had seen film footage of Muslims in New Jersey cheering as the World Trade Center collapsed during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Carson communications director Doug Watts issued a statement Monday afternoon stating that: “Dr. Carson does not stand by the statements that were reported today. He was hearing and thinking something differently at the the time,” adding:”He does, however, recall and had his mind focused on the celebrations in the Middle East. He is not suggesting that American Muslims were in New Jersey celebrating the fall of the twin towers.”
Carson had been referring to claims made by fellow Republican hopeful Donald Trump over the weekend that he saw “thousands” of people cheering as the twin towers fell.
Speaking at a rally in Birmingham, Alabama, Trump stated: “I watched in Jersey City, NJ where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down,” Trump said, adding: “Thousands of people were cheering, so something’s going on we got to find out what it is.”
