The FBI releases video footage of LaVoy Finicum shooting at Oregon standoff.
Oregon Public Broadcasting FM (OPB-FM) reports that the Oregon militia standoff continues as four people remain inside the Mahleur National Wildlife Refuge according to the FBI.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Greg Bretzing told reporters during a Thursday night press conference that: “The negotiators continue to work around the clock to talk to those four people in an effort to get them to come out peacefully.”
The FBI also provided new details and a video about the fatal shooting of LaVoy Finicum who was traveling with Ammon Bundy and several other militiamen on Tuesday afternoon outside of the town of Burns when officials from the FBI and the Oregon State Police stopped their cars.
Aerial footage from an FBI plane flying overhead shows a white truck attempting to elude capture.
“He nearly hit an FBI agent,” Bretzing told reporters.
The video shows the vehicle speeding towards three vehicles driven by law enforcement officers and the truck eventually got stuck in a snowbank.
Finicum can be seen exiting the vehicle with his hands in the air as he was surrounded by officers.
His hands appear to reach down towards his waist, and officers can be seen firing shots, and Finicum can be seen falling to the ground.
It’s difficult to discern what happened in the final moments before troopers shot Finicum, a 55-year-old Arizona resident. The video shows the vehicle speeding toward a blockade of three law enforcement cars.
The truck got stuck in the snow, and Finicum exited from the driver’s seat with his hands initially in the air. Surrounded by troopers on either side, “Finicum reaches his right hand toward a pocket on the left inside portion of his jacket,” Bretzing said, adding that: “He did have a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun in that pocket. At this time, OSP troopers shot Finicum.”
