The World’s Largest Gun Show in Las Vegas where the Second Amendment is Sacred – the First Amendment not so important…
It seems that gun manufacturers are all about the Second Amendment but aren’t concerned about First Amendment rights…. At least that’s what happened at a gun show in Las Vegas this weekend.
Rupert Neate and Mae Ryan of The Guardian were attending Shot Show, “the largest gun trade show in the world, with over 60,000 attendees and dealers showcasing the latest in firearms technology.”
They were instructed by Shot Show officials that they were not allowed to bring up the issue of gun control with gun companies. Further, the organizers of Shot Show required Neate and Ryan have an escort at all times.
According to Neate, “They’re concerned that questions about gun control could be disruptive.”
Everything went well according to the Guardian’s coverage, below, until Neate met with Jan Mladek, Smith & Wesson’s general manager. Mladek was touting the benefits of the company’s M&P15 Assault Rifle when Neate asked if it was the same weapon used during the recent massacre in San Bernardino, California.
The interview abruptly ended at that point, and you can observe Mladek pulling out his cell phone. Shortly thereafter Neate received an email instructing him to report to Bill Brassard, the Senior Communications Director for the National Shooting Sports Foundation – the host of the show.
“Well, you really got us flustered up here,” said Brassard to Neate. “We got a complaint from a major exhibitor who asks us to escort mainstream media on the show floor.”
Neate and Ryan were then instructed to immediately turn off their camera.
You can watch what happens next in the clip, below.
