Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich outlined his plan for dealing with Muslims in America during a Thursday interview with Sean Hannity.
Republicans are pouncing on the tragic Thursday attack in the French coastal city of Nice that claimed at least 84 lives.
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, who has previously called for a ban on Muslims entering the country, linked the attack to immigrants and refugees.
During a Thursday interview with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, Trump declared: “this is war,” adding: “We’re dealing with people without uniforms… We are allowing people into our country. We have no idea where they are coming from. They have no paperwork, no documentation. This may be the great Trojan Horse of all time.”
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich went a step further calling for a religious test for all U.S. Muslims regardless of nationality or citizenship status during an interview with Fox News‘ Sean Hannity. [Below]
“Let me be as blunt and direct as I can be,” he began. “Western Civilization is in a war. We should – quite frankly – test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Shariah [the religious legal system governing the members of the Islamic faith] they should be deported. Shariah is incompatible with Western Civilization. Modern Muslims who have given up Shariah – glad to have them as citizens, perfectly happy to have them next door.”
“We need to be fairly relentless about defining who our enemies are. Anyone who goes to a website favoring ISIS or al Qaeda or other terrorists groups – that should be a felony and they should go to jail.”
Hannity inquired about the process of identifying individuals for deportation, asking “How do we ascertain — how do you possibly ascertain whether or not that person really wants assimilation, really wants a new life, or whether or not they want to expand that caliphate, which is what we’re at war against?”
The first step is you have to ask them the questions. The second step is you have to monitor what they’re doing on the Internet. The third step is, let me be very clear, you have to monitor the mosques. I mean, if you’re not prepared to monitor the mosques, this whole thing is a joke. Where do you think the primary source of recruitment is? Where do you think the primary place of indoctrination is? You’ve got to look at the madrassas [an Islamic religious school]. If you’re a school which is teaching Sharia, you want to expel it from the country.
Gingrich went on to say that calling Islam a “religion of peace” is “bologna.”
“It’s not that Islamists are necessarily evil, but they’re not necessarily a religion of peace,” Gingrich stated.
Gingrich also attacked President Barack Obama, citing the call by Democrats for stricter gun regulations in the wake of the June 12th terrorist attack at an Orlando nightclub that claimed 49 lives and left 53 injured.
I fully expect by tomorrow morning that President Obama will have rediscovered his left-wing roots and will give a press conference in which he’ll explain that the problem is too many trucks. If only we had truck regulation, then we wouldn’t have problems like Nice because it is trucks that are dangerous. I mean that’s the exact analog to Orlando and just tells you how nuts the left wing in America is.
As NBC News reports, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned Gingrich’s remarks, accusing him of playing into the hands of terrorists and betraying “the American values he purports to uphold.”
CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad stated that: “When former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggests that American Muslims be subjected to an Inquisition-style religious test and then expelled from their homes and nation, he plays into the hands of terror recruiters and betrays the American values he purports to uphold.”
