You know it’s a bad sign when you are a Republican and Bill O’Reilly delivers a stinging rebuke – not once, but twice in the same day.

That’s exactly what happened Thursday in the wake of Donald Trump’s horrifying performance during the third, and last, presidential debate.

As Vanity Fair reports, “the truest sign of Trump’s failure” is receiving a “stinging rebuke” from Bill O’Reilly who all but said that Trump “had blown his chance” at winning the election during a Thursday morning interview on WOR’s Len Berman and Todd Schnitt In The Morning.

“I believe that Donald Trump had to really knock it out of the park last night, and he didn’t do it because he got sidetracked on this rigged-election thing.” O’Reilly said.

“The press doesn’t like him, that’s a fact. So they’ll seize on that: ‘He’s not respecting the process,'” he continued, adding that – although he doesn’t personally believe the election is being rigged – he did not mind that Trump claims otherwise. However, he went on to blast Trump for the way he answered Chris Wallace’s question during the debate when asked directly if he would respect the outcome of the election.

“To answer the question that way, who’s he going to win over? You just can’t play to your base, because your base isn’t big enough to win. So that’s the mistake he made and I don’t know if he can recover from that.”

O’Reilly followed up on that sentiment during Thursday evening’s Talking Points Commentary, telling viewers that: “Donald Trump made a tactical mistake by continuing to suggest the election may be rigged. That may play well with Trump’s base but he needs to win over independents and people who are skeptical of him.”

After playing a clip of Trump refusing to answer whether he would accept the outcome of the election, O’Reilly stated: “That statement dominated headlines today, overriding all the political points, giving the media another hammer to pound Trump into pudding.”

“Talking Points does not understand why Donald Trump does not understand that stuff like that hurts him, ” he continued.

O’Reilly summarized his Talking Point stating that “No one won the debate. Hillary Clinton will likely maintain her substantial lead.””

You can listen to Thursday’s morning interview with Len Berman and Todd Schnitt already cued up the to relevant portion, followed by O’Reilly’s Talking Points analysis (cued up as well).
