The former Communications Director for Pres. George W. Bush blasted Donald Trump and his campaign Tuesday night on behalf of women and minorities…
Nicolle Wallace, former White House Communications and Chief Political Analyst for MSNBC, blasted Donald Trump last night in the wake of controversy surrounding former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s vicious attack on Fox News host Megyn Kelly.
Talking to NBC host Brian Williams, Wallace explained that there is a “hot war under way right now in the Republican Party” being waged between “Trump and his supporters against GOP women.”
“Trump once talked about imaginary Muslims on roofs celebrating,’ she continued. “There will real life Republican women celebrating all over this country when this man who has sanctioned and normalized misogyny to the point where one of his last standing surrogates is on TV hectoring a woman that Donald Trump has cyber bullied and harassed and made the center of a story for the whole fifteen months that he has been running.”
She went on to note that the Trump campaign has gone “where no Republican has gone before,” and that Republicans must “change their tune” if they ever hope to “win women back.”
“This was to me a moment that crystallizes everything that’s wrong with Donald Trump’s campaign. It’s all personal. It’s all nasty. And they go – thank God – where no Republican has gone before. But if they ever want to win women back they are going to have to change their tune. And I hope that Republicans will condemn these comments by tomorrow morning.”
She went on to explain that the election should have been “eminently winnable” for Republicans, but not by a flawed candidate such as Trump whom she called “truly a stain on the Republican Party” when it comes to “race,” “broadening” the Republican “tent,” and “when it comes to women.”
Here’s the deal, I’m related to Trump supporters and I understand their frustration. He’s going to lose because he could never make it about the Clintons. The Clintons are incredibly problematic. Andy Sullivan was on here last night talking to us about his tortured journey to getting behind her. That’s always been the case. The reason establishment types like me have been wringing our hands for fifteen months and joking about therapy is because this race was eminently winnable, but not with someone who is truly a stain on the Republican Party when it comes to questions of race, when it comes to questions of broadening the tent, and when comes to how you talk about and to women.
