An open letter that every Trump supporter should read in the wake of the inauguration ceremony.
While Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has remained rather silent regarding the results of the U.S. presidential election, other Canadians have been far more vocal.
After the inauguration ceremony, a friend sent me an open letter, written by a Canadian, regarding Trump supporters and the direction America seems to be moving.
This individual, a male who shall remain nameless, began by pointing out that many of the people who voted for Trump are “sincere people who feel uplifted and inspired” that their choice is “now the president.”
He goes on to write that CBC Radio (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) has been interviewing Trump supporters in the wake of the inauguration, who are “speaking from the heart” about “being thrilled [that] their guy made it.”
Noting the trying times that Trump supporters must have endured in the weeks and months leading up to the election – “pussy-grabbing? Seriously?” – he writes that for now, he will “bite [his] tongue, smile, and let them have their bliss” – at least for the moment.
However, he does point out the incredible naivety – or willful ignorance – of anyone who voted for Trump.
“They aren’t aware of what an incompetent nothing he is. Well – they didn’t want to read the obvious signs over the last 30 years,” he writes.
Going on, he warns:
They don’t know about the ridiculous kleptocrats he has surrounded himself with; that he has yet made only 29 nominations for 690 positions the Senate must confirm. That he has fired all US Ambassadors. THERE ARE NOW NO US AMBASSADORS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. That he had to beg yesterday for 50 top security experts from Obama’s (“DISGRACEFULL!”) admin to stay on because he has nobody in place. On one day’s notice he wants them to stay. Sure.
They don’t know that immediately after the swearing-in he took all references to climate change off the government website … and cancelled lower interest rates for low-income home-owners. Within an hour of taking office.
I feel for the uninformed. And I despise his creator, Rupert Murdoch.
Departing from that letter and returning our attention back to Americans – those of the variety from the U.S.A. – American liberals and progressives need to unite to rebuild the Democratic Party and to do everything in their power to push back against the conservative agenda. And, as Michael Moore wrote on his “Day Two’s To-Do List,” liberals and progressives “must quickly and decisively form an opposition movement, the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the 1960s.”
Today’s historic Women’s March on Washington is a good beginning, but we need to fight the good fight and push back on Trump’s agenda each and every day until he is either impeached or worse [possibly better… depends on your perspective].
