National Rifle Association employee shoots himself during firearms training at the organization’s headquarters according to police.
Fairfax police report that an NRA employee accidentally shot himself during firearms training at the organization’s headquarters on Friday.
NBC News 4 reports that “the 46-year-old man’s pistol accidentally discharged Thursday afternoon as he holstered the gun in Fairfax County, Virginia, police said.”
USA Today adds that “The staffer at the National Firearms Museum, a site run by the National Rifle Association out of its headquarters, suffered a minor wound to the lower body while taking part in firearms training at the organization’s range.”
News 4 reached out to the NRA for comment but received no response by the time of publication and reports that “Officers worked with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and no charges are expected, according to police.”
Ironically, this incident comes in the wake of a report last year by Mike Weisser of the Huffington Post, otherwise known as ‘Mike the Gun Guy,’ detailing the fact that “The Gun Lobby’s Own Publications Expose the Fantasy of the ‘Good Guy With a Gun.’“
In this instance, a “good guy with a gun” ended up shooting a “good guy with a gun” – himself.
