Ashley Biden’s new clothing line shows Ivanka Trump how to make American fashion great again.

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, announced earlier this year that she was trying her hand at fashion.

NBC News program “The Today Show” reported this February that “Ashley Biden, is trying her hand at fashion, and donating the proceeds to a good cause. Biden, 35, recently debuted a line of hoodies called Livelihood at New York Fashion Week, and her famous parents were there in support.”

“It was exhilarating,” Biden told Today Style of the company’s  launch, adding: “It was exciting. There was so much energy and support and love in that room.”

Glamour Magazine reports that Ashley’s new clothing line is “equal parts style and social conscience.”

Ashley told Glamour that she had no choice but to enter public service.

“The passion started at a very young age,” Ashley told Glamour, adding that: “My dad is a lifelong public servant; my mom was a public-school teacher—it’s in my DNA.”

Ashley went on to tell Glamour that as a young child her interest was in helping animals, culminating with her work with Democratic Rep. Barbara Boxer who helped her appear before Congress in support of the The Dolphin Protection Consumer Information Act.

From there, her interest shifted to social justice and “the unfairness people experience through education opportunities.”

Glamour goes on to explain how Ashley’s clothing line works to serve that interest:

Sold exclusively on Gilt, the unisex line is made in the U.S. and priced between $79 and $99. Most important: All proceeds go toward supporting local charitable causes. Initially, funds will go to education, workplace development, and job placement initiatives in Wilmington, Delaware (where Biden was born), and Anacostia, in the District of Columbia (where Biden got her start as a social worker), but she has her sights set on expanding from there.

“Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked as a social worker and learned first-hand that civic participation is an essential component of community development,” Ashley said in a statement. “My goal with Livelihood is to celebrate that ethos with creative and innovative programs that directly impact local neighborhoods.”

EcoWatch reports that:

Biden said she chose to sell hoodies “because it is universal, was once ubiquitous with the Labor Movement and is currently symbolic of important social justice movements.”

Teen Vogue reported on the contrast between this venture and that of the Trump – who campaigned on “Making America Great Again” and returning manufacturing jobs to the U.S.

Wearing clothes that are made in the U.S.A. is almost a political statement these days. President Trump makes a point of highlighting any news that manufacturing jobs are being moved back to the United States, even though both his and his daughter’s eponymous lines are not made stateside. Ashley Biden, daughter of former VP Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, launched a clothing brand that’s actually made in the U.S.A. And she takes it a step further by donating proceeds to underserved American communities.
