Americans Raise Over $300K For Children Of Grieving Widow Trump Insulted In Less Than 24 Hours

A GoFundMe campaign to pay for college for the children of Sgt. La David T. Johnson, who was killed in action in Nigeria, has raised over $300,000 overnight after Trump insulted his widow.

Perusing Twitter this morning, I was pleased to see CNN anchor Jake Tapper confirm that a GoFundMe campaign has exploded for the children of one of the four Green Beret soldiers killed recently in Nigeria.

As Liberals Unite partner Mindy Fischer reported: “On Tuesday night, Miami’s local ABC affiliate reported that Trump finally made a phone call Tuesday evening to the widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in an ambush in Niger on October 4. Myeshia Johnson is not only grieving for her husband. She’s also six months pregnant and taking care of the couple’s two young children, ages six and two.”

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) was with Johnson when she received Trump’s call. She told ABC10 that Trump said to the pregnant grieving widow, “He knew what he signed up for …but when it happens it hurts anyway.”

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson is establishing a Role Model Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson Scholarship to benefit his children by providing money towards their college education, and a GoFundMe page was set up Tuesday night to begin collecting donations.

Astonishingly, the campaign has raised over $308,000 dollars at the time of publication of this article, with contributions received from 6,491 people in less than 1 day; and the GoFundMe campaign is currently trending.

The stated goal of the campaign is to raise $1 million dollars.

As the campaign notes:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of our Role Model Son and American Hero, Army Sergeant La David T. Johnson.  This Green Beret, 25, of Miami Gardens, Fla., was ambushed in Niger while providing training and security assistance to the Nigeriens Armed Forces in the region overwhelmed by Boko Haram.  What a tragedy!  Role Model Sgt. Johnson leaves behind two children, ages 2 and 6, along with his beloved wife and soulmate Mrs. Myeshia Johnson.  Mrs. Johnson is currently pregnant with their third child. The 5000 Role Model of Excellence Project, led by its founder, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson is establishing a Role Model Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson Scholarship to benefit his children by providing money towards their college education. We are asking you to donate to this worthy cause. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson has been focused on the defeat of Boko Haram for 5 years, after they kidnapped 276 school girls from their boarding school in Nigeria.

Please, donate generously today.
