Has Trump Finally Lost It Completely? His Bizarre Friday Rant Is Cause For Alarm
Trump took time out from golfing at his Mar-a-Lago property in Florida to give a bizarre speech at the local Coast Guard Station on Thanksgiving Day.
As CNN reported: “Trump stopped by a local Coast Guard station in Florida on Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving. While there, he gave a speech extolling the virtues of the Coast Guard ‘brand’ and talking about how everything is now better thanks to, well, him.”
While CNN picked out 13 bizarre quotes – and there were a lot of strange moments – one remark about “invisible” planes was perhaps one of the oddest remarks Trump has made in a while. (And yes, I know it is difficult to quantify his strange comments and tweets, as there are literally dozens each week, if not daily….)
The Navy, I can tell you, we’re ordering ships. With the Air Force, we’re ordering a lot of planes, in particular the F-35 fighter jet, which is, you know, almost like an invisible fighter. I was asking the Air Force guys, I said, how good is this plane? They said, well, sir, you can’t see it. I said, yeah, but in a fight — you know, a fight — like I watch in the movies — they fight, they’re fighting. How good is this? They say, well, it wins every time because the enemy cannot see it. Even if it’s right next to it, it can’t see it. I said, that helps. (Laughter.) That’s a good thing.
Like a child isn’t he? Marveling at the wonder of an “invisible fighter” – you know – just like in the “movies.”
And this isn’t the first time Trump has talked about the F-35 in terms of being invisible. As The Guardian reported: “Trump first startled reporters with talk of an invisible plane in October, when he discussed the F-35 at a military briefing in hurricane-hit Puerto Rico.”
“Amazing job,” Trump was quoting as saying, adding: “So amazing we are ordering hundreds of millions of dollars of new airplanes for the air force, especially the F-35. You like the F-35? … You can’t see it. You literally can’t see it. It’s hard to fight a plane you can’t see.”
And to make matters worse, The Guardian reports that:
The plane in question, the F-35, is not invisible, though it is unusually small and designed to be less visible to radar than conventional aircraft. Its development, however, has proved all too visibly costly and riddled with problems.
