Right-wing commentator Dinesh D’Souza is denounced by other conservatives after he took to Twitter to taunt Parkland shooting survivors for losing weapons-ban vote in the Florida legislature.
Slate reported that: “A week after students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were unwittingly thrust into the national spotlight, the Florida legislature voted down the possibility of banning assault weapons in the state like the one used by used by shooter Nikolas Cruz to kill 17 people.”
ABC affiliate News 10 elaborated, reporting that: “On their first full day lobbying Florida lawmakers in Tallahassee to change the state’s gun laws, students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School quickly learned change does not happen very fast in government, if at all.”
With Douglas students in the gallery Tuesday, the Florida House voted down a motion to take up a ban on assault weapons such as the AR-15 used by Nikolas Cruz when he killed 17 people at the school on Valentine’s Day.
The final motion vote was 36-71.
San Francisco Gate reported that: “Conservative filmmaker, professional troll and convicted felon Dinesh D’Souza riled up Twitter on Tuesday with a few tasteless tweets mocking the teenage survivors of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.”
“Adults 1, kids 0,” his first tweet read.
A few minutes later, he followed that one up, tweeting: “Worst news since their parents told them to get summer jobs”.
Twitter was quick to respond with several conservatives speaking out against D’Souza and his hurtful tweets.
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) responded that D’Souza would not be a speaker this year when asked about it on Twitter.
Rafael Shimunov, Creative Director at Working Families Party and co-builder of ResistHere, posted an image showing D’Souza’s image on the CPAC website’s speaker page.
Along with the image, he tweeted; “Hey @ACUConservative might want to cancel @DineshDSouza at CPAC right about now. Will you draw a line at one of your speakers openly mocking child survivors of Florida school shooting? #CPAC2018”

CPAC responded: “Hey Rafael, this is #FakeNews. @DineshDSouza is not a speaker at #CPAC2018. You are seeing an archived speaker profile and we are taking down his archived picture. His comments are indefensible.”

D’Souza’s image has since been removed from the site.
Below are a couple more tweets from conservatives:
I usually am very supportive of your opinions. But, if those really were shooting survivors, your statement was completely lacking in class! 😡

Given his truly repulsive tweets today, I suspect Dinesh D'Souza has overtaken Marion Le Pen as the most distasteful speaker at this year's CPAC.
