A 22 year old marketing student from Texas State University in San Marcos is speaking out about her run-in with the police.
A cell phone video taken on May 29th of this year shows Alexis Alpha in the middle of a violent altercation with Corporal James Palermo, a San Marcos police officer, who accosted her after leaving a bar at 1 a.m. to speak with some friends across the street.
She walked between Palermo’s patrol car and another vehicle he had pulled over for a traffic stop.
In an exclusive interview with local station KHOU 11 News she stated:
“I wasn’t the only one who walked between the cars. Several people walked between them. I was just the one he called out.”
She went on to add that Palermo became more agitated the longer he questioned her:
“I could kind of tell like he wanted to start an argument, and at that point, I was polite from the beginning, and the meanest thing I said was ‘you’re in a bad mood, and you’re taking it out on me. You’re just being a d***k.’”
According to Alpha and witnesses, this was when Palermo grabbed her by her shoulders and slammed her on the hood of a car.
“And then he grabbed me and threw me face down into the concrete, and he sits on my back while he handcuffs me.”
Alpha, suffered a concussion and received two broken teeth in the assault, has since had three root canals and nearly a dozen visits to the dentist. She was arrested for obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and public intoxication, but all of those charges were later dismissed.
In an ironic turn, Palermo was charged with aggravated assault but is still serving as a police officer until an ongoing investigation is completed.
