Bill Maher on Obamacare: ‘It’s not going to fail’

Tuesday evening Bill Maher and Piers Morgan sat down for a life primetime interview to discuss a wide array of topics to include Obamacare and FOX News. (Click here to watch Maher’s thoughts on Fox News.)

Speaking on the Obamacare roll-out, Maher pointed out that often-times new programs are plagued with problems at the beginning:

“[E]very program of this size was a headache at first. So was Bush’s Medicare prescription drug program for the old folks. Remember, ‘hey, free Viagra, have a boner on George Bush, remember me at the polls. Social security, Medicare, all these programs have these kind problems when you start with them.”

Maher also pointed out the gross distortions coming out of the Republican Party regarding public perception of the program:

“Look, it has a lot of problems – but you know what? Even with all the problems, in four polls last week Obamacare is more popular than ever. And Republicans like to site this statistic, something like 54% of people are against Obamacare. This is very very misleading. That includes the 16% of people who think it doesn’t go far enough. “

Maher concluded insisting that Obamacare will succeed:

“Americans really want coverage. Of course, it’s going to be popular, it’s about your health, the health of your family. It’s a life and death issue and again, it was there, it was created because people were dying and the country was going broke. It’s going to be a rocky birth but it’s not going to fail.”
