D.A. Tries New Route To Get 'Affluenza' Teen Jail Time

Prosecutors want Ethan Couch to serve jail time for DWI assault charges after he was only given probation and rehab after being found guilty of 4 counts of manslaughter.

In a move that many legal experts are calling political, the D.A. is pushing for jail time on the assault charges as Couch was only sentences on the manslaughter charges.

At the earlier sentencing hearing the defense team for a rich teenager found guilty of killing 4 people while driving drunk successfully argued for treatment versus prison by claiming he suffered from “affluenza.”

The defense argued that Ethan Couch, 16-years-old at the time of the incident, was the “product of wealthy, privileged parents who never set limits for the boy,” according to CNN.

The court agreed with their defense and sentenced the rich teen to 10 years of probation and counseling noting that “he’s a defendant in need of treatment.”

Prosecutors, who had been seeking the maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars, were stunned by the sentence as were members of the victims’ families.
