American Idol's Clay Aiken's Emotional Campaign Ad

American Idol runner-up, Clay Aiken, confirmed this week that he will be seeking the Democratic nomination for the North Carolina congressional seat currently held by Rep. Renee Ellmers.

Aikens talks about about a variety of emotion subject in the nearly 5-minute long campaign ad discussing fleeing from an abusive father as a child, working as a special-ed teacher, and more light-heartedly about the experience of winning a singing competition “with my elfin charm but I know a lot about politics, too.”

Aiken told NewsObserver, “I saw this as the best place I could serve because I think Washington, in general, is dysfunctional. I think it’s high time we put people in Congress who were not beholden to their party and not beholden to anything but the people who they live around and grew up around, in my case.”
