Speaker Boehner’s announcement that he intends to sue President Obama for alleged misuse of executive power has had one immediate effect: it has raised tons of money for Democrats.
NBC News reported on Wednesday that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) told them they have raised over $2.5 million dollars since June 25, the day the lawsuit was first reported.
The money was raised over a six-day period from 118,000 donations to include money from 30,000 first-time donors.
The DCCC raised $588,000 the day of the announcement after initiating an aggressive email campaign highlighting the lawsuit and soliciting donations. The best day so far was June 30, bringing in $800,000, after Obama announced he would be taking executive action regarding immigration in the wake of Boehner’s official announcement the House would not be voting on pending legislation.
NBC reports that the DCCC chairman Steve Israel said: “Our grassroots supporters are highly motivated by this Republican Congress and are showing that with record levels of support.”
